This song was written about a young girl who had a short whirlwind relationship and discovered herself pregnant.  It was a time when customs about pre-marriage sex were strictly forbidden and a Lady acted in accordance.  In desperation, she runs to the man who got her pregnant.  She finds him and he refuses her for another woman.
